Long week-end coming… No alcohol but water instead!

Saturday is “Asahara Bucha”, the day that commemorates the first sermon given by Bouddha, and Sunday marks the beginning of the Buddhist lent (Khao Phansa, khao meaning “enter”) that will last for three months, until October 5, the day of “Awk Phansa” (awk meaning “going out”). During this period, some people choose to refrain from drinking alcohol, smoking or eating meat.

As usual when a day off happens on a Sunday, the Monday is a day off in lieu. So everything will be closed Monday (schools, banks, immigration…).

There is also an alcohol ban, the sale of alcohol will be prohibited for 48 hours, starting Saturday at 0.00 until Monday 0.00. It means that bars will be closed Saturday night and Sunday night.

So no alcohol for this long week-end, but Cha-am has plenty of water, especially the kind that falls from the sky and makes the roads wet!
