Cha-Am: additional information for tourists
Health and emergency
There is a hospital in Cha-Am, as well as several pharmacies. Other hospitals can be found in Hua Hin, Phetchaburi, and of course Bangkok.
For more general information about Health and Safety, see our FAQ about Thailand
Hospitals
Cha-Am Hospital is on Khlong Thian road, in the north of Cha-Am. If you go by yourself and come from the beachfront, take Narathip road then turn right at the Family Mart, a few yards before Phetkasem road (the main road from Bangkok to Hua Hin). Go straight, pass the junction and you will find the hospital on the right side of the road.
Cha-Am hospital is a small hospital in a small city, so if you need any serious care (or any care at all, in fact), you should go to a hospital in Hua Hin, Phetchaburi, or even Bangkok. The closest hopital we would recommend is Petcharat Hospital in Phetchaburi (on Phetkasem road, not far from Big C). In Bangkok there are many good hospitals, like Bumrungrad, Samitivej or BNH.
There are also clinics in Cha-Am, like the one near the junction between Narathip and Phetkasem roads.
Emergency numbers
There is a sign at the end of Narathip road on the beachfront, between North Cha-Am and South Cha-Am, with many useful numbers. Unfortunately the color has faded and most numbers are unreadable. So here is a more useful list of emergency numbers:
Tourist Police - 1155
Police (general emergency call) - 191
Medical emergency call - 1669
Fire - 199
Ambulance and Rescue - 1554
Crime - 1195
National Disaster Warning Centre - 1860
Tourist Information Inquiry - 1672
Police
The main police station is located at the western end of Narathip road, near the train station and the main Post office. A smaller station can be found at the other end of Narathip road, on the beachfront.
