Cha-Am: general information

Bars and nightlife

Cha-Am is no Pattaya and everybody is happy about that. So if you are looking for serious nightlife action, you may consider another destination. But there are bars in Cha-Am, so you can indeed play pool with friendly "hello-welcome" girls under pink neons. This is Thailand, after all!

Disclaimer!

There are a few places in Cha-Am where you can find bars and a bit of a nightlife. But be warned beforehand, Cha-Am is not Phuket or Pattaya! If you are a party animal, if you like to dance all night long, or if you need the kind of company that can be found in gogo bars, you will probably get bored very quickly and end up hating Cha-Am. Please keep in mind that Cha-Am is a Thai resort, with a lot of Thai tourists (coming from other provinces, mainly Bangkok), and that the tourists from the West are mostly couples or families. The expats who live in Cha-Am chose Cha-Am precisely for these reasons: because of its laid back atmosphere, and because it is mainly a Thai resort. So no "Full moon party" here, and nobody complains about that.

If you need a little bit of fun, we suggest you head on to Hua Hin, where the bar scene is more attractive. And if it is still not enough, remember that Bangkok is not far away!

This "disclaimer" being stated, let's see where you can find some bars in Cha-Am.

Where are the bars

Bus soi

The soi where are concentrated most of the bars is on Cha-Am south, just before soi 1. It's a large soi with houses and shops on either side, and a row of bars in the middle. Also known as "Cha-Am Plaza" or "bus soi", this is the soi where the bus station to Bangkok is located.

"Cha-Am Plaza" looking a bit dull during daytime.

Your typical "hello-welcome" bar!

Even at night, most of the bars are deserted. If you are alone and if you don't speak Thai, you may even find the atmosphere a bit depressing! But there are pool tables, TV screens, cold beer and friendly ladies (most of them from Issan), so you can also have a nice time. Just don't expect too much...

Narathip Road

Another bar area is on Narathip Road, on a small soi on the left when coming from the beach (after the traffic lights). It has several bars, pool tables and restaurants, and even the only go-go bar of Cha-Am, the infamous Chicken Coop (where you will probably be the only customer, and there will probably be only one dancer).

There are also Thai style karaoke on Narathip Road. You can get drunk on Thai whisky and murder a song, or you can just sit and enjoy the show!

Beachfront

On the beachfront, you can find a few pubs (like the Scandic) in the soi of the Long Beach hotel and Tony's restaurant.

The soi just after the soi of the Gems Hotel (after Cha-Am North soi 5 when coming from Narathip road), also has a few bars and pubs, like the Lodge or the Paris-London pub.

Between Cha-Am North soi 9 and 10, there is also a gravelled soi with a few bars in the middle (next to the Methavalai Hotel). Nothing exciting though.

Finally, on the road running parallel to the beachfront, let's mention Crawfords, which is an Irish pub. To find it, take Narathip Road from the beachfront, turn left at the first traffic lights and go for a few hundred meters until you find it on your right. Or just go to the end of soi Cha-Am South 1.
