Local elections, August 26
You’ve probably heard the pick-up trucks going through every part of town with loudspeakers blaring out “beeeeeuuur nnneeuuuuuung” (number one). Well it’s going to end soon, as local elections will be organized this Sunday. It’s an election at provincial level (Or Bor Jor, which is Ongkan Bolihan Suan Changwat). I can inquire further on the subject if you are interested, but the only thing foreigners are usually interested in, as non voters, is that the BARS ARE CLOSING. Nobody knows why, but each time there are elections, the bars must close. Maybe it’s to avoid drunken brawls, or so that a party cannot buy votes by offering free drinks, or a bit of both. Anyway, you may find the bars closed on Saturday and Sunday night, August 25-26.
