July 7, Tuesday, will be Asahara Bucha day. It is a religious holiday in Thailand, and the government has also granted July 6 as a day off, so that Thai people can enjoy a four day long weekend. There will probably be a lot of traffic on the roads, and let’s hope, for the sake of all the people here who work in the tourism industry here, that Bangkokians will come to Cha-Am in numbers. The long week-end will end July 8, that is next Wednesday, with the beginning of the Buddhist Lent. During three months, Buddhist people who follow the precepts of their religion rigorously will refrain from smoking, drinking alcohol, killing animals or more generally indulging in anything reprehensible.
So, any special events in Cha-Am during this week-end? Well, it seems that they are organizing some kind of a festival along the beach, kicking off tomorrow. There will be some music (look-toung/pheua-chewit style), and probably dozens of stalls selling food, beverage, clothes and souvenirs. A jetski competition (the fourth leg of the national championship) will also take place on July 4-5, in front of the “view point”, which is just at the end of Narathip road.
